Be Your Own Valentine

Becca M | FEB 14, 2024

Valentine’s Day is meant to be a celebration of love of another - what if that “other” was yourself? And what if we could foster that love on a daily basis? Too often self-care is placed at the bottom of our to-do list, maybe even not making it on the list at all some days (or weeks or years!) as we prioritize other people and other activities. But how can we contribute to the world if we are pouring from an empty cup?

**Self-care doesn’t have to be picturesque or instagrammable - perhaps, in fact, it shouldn’t be. It looks different to every person and every day. **

So, how can we make a routine of self love through self-care when things can change from moment to moment? There is a daily practice you can commit to that has no boundaries and can look however you FEEL it should look in your body, on this day. That is yoga.

That is the practice.

Yoga isn’t a pretty pose - it is a “pretty” feeling we cultivate within ourselves by setting aside time in our day to connect to our breath and still our mind so that we may tune in to our inner wisdom. Yoga doesn’t mind if you only have a few minutes, and it doesn’t care if you are flexible.

** Anonymous quote: “Yoga is not for the flexible, yoga is for the willing.” **

We see a lot of yoga in the world these days but real yoga cannot be seen - it’s on the inside. Like a box of chocolates, the box is just a container and the real gift is on the inside.

What if you invited the spirit of Valentine’s Day into your daily life by showing up for yourself, practicing self-care, and trusting that the benefits of this extend out from you to your family and beyond. Set an intention to show up for yourself every day without assigning any form - maybe you show up by waking up and breathing mindfully before you arise. Maybe you show up by doing a self oil-massage one day to bring warmth and moisture on a cold and dry day. Maybe you show up by drinking your morning beverage in silence, letting the morning wash over you.

Hop over to my video practices to find a variety of different practice options to warm and awaken to your well of self love.

Be kind and feel love - starting with yourself!

with love and gratitude,

Becca
